Property of the Fortnight: The ultimate Shoreditch party house, from warehouse to £6m apartment
When the current owners bought an apartment atop a warehouse in Shoreditch 13 years ago, they had no way of knowing it would one day be worth £6m. But Darianne Lowe, who moved in with her partner four years ago, had big plans for the space.
“Think pigeons, a squatting DJ with dozens and dozens of vinyl records stacked around a mattress on the floor and lots of smashed windows,” she says. “After looking around inner London it became evident that Shoreditch was the only place where we would find something untouched and within walking distance to The City.”
The first thing they did was build on the floor above to create a three-bedroom duplex penthouse spanning 4,000sqft. Now the third floor home, situated on the aptly-named Ravey Street, is the ultimate party house.
The 60ft living room has an in-built cinema screen, projector and surround sound system and bespoke walnut units conceal a custom-made bar. Full height glass sliding doors open out to the “glass box” private roof terrace that’s fitted out with a hot tub, a pond with coloured lights, a fountain, an outdoor sound system and a second kitchen with 360 degree views of the City skyline.
It took Darianne and her partner two years to renovate the apartment and now she runs Skull and Fox, a catering company that also runs cooking workshops, from her professional standard, open plan, stainless steel kitchen. “We wanted a showcase dining room where we could hold dinner parties in style,” says Lowe.
Despite the technological touches, the materials used throughout nod to the building’s industrial past, with exposed brickwork left in the reception room, raw concrete used in the library and study and a limestone egg-shaped bath in the master ensuite.
