Professional salaries jump amid scramble for the brightest talent
Demand for professional staff climbed strongly in May, with sharp growth in both job vacancies and average salaries.
Professional recruitment firms had 13 per cent more jobs on their books than in May 2014, the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (Apsco) said today.
Opportunities were up the most across IT, engineering and finance with year-on-year growth of 14, 12 and 10 per cent respectively.
Apsco also found that average salaries across all professional sectors have shot up by 5.7 per cent.
It exceeds annual wage growth in the rest of the economy, which was 2.7 per cent in April, according to the Office for National Statistics.
“The fact that wages have jumped so significantly across the professional sectors is a sure sign that market confidence is soaring. Organisations are scrambling to get their hands on the brightest talent, and those that can offer attractive remuneration packages stand a fighting chance,” said Apsco chief executive Ann Swain.
