Prime Minister David Cameron says he will make the case for UK military action in Syria
Prime Minister David Cameron has confirmed that he will make the case for British air strikes in Syria.
Speaking to MPs in the House of Commons this afternoon, Cameron said that he will make a separate statement on Thursday setting out how attacking the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Syria would help defeat the violent Islamist group.
Cameron made the comments as part of his statement revealing the government's Strategic Defence and Security Review, which includes an additional £12bn in funding for defence equipment.
Cameron also told MPs that in the coming years, an additional 10,000 military personnel will be available to support British police in the event of a terror attack like the one that killed at least 130 people in Paris last week.
Cameron met with French President Francois Hollande earlier today in Paris. Following a visit to the Bataclan theatre, where assailants killed 89 concert-goers on Friday, Cameron said: "The United Kingdom will do all in our power to support our friend and ally France to defeat this evil death cult."
