Prescott warns Labour is failing in media war
LABOUR heavyweight Lord Prescott yesterday attacked his party’s performance and called on Ed Miliband to sack weak shadow cabinet members.
The ex-Deputy Prime Minister insisted “time is running out” for Labour to build momentum ahead of the 2015 general election.
“This summer, we massively failed to get our case over to the public and hold the Tories to account,” he wrote in the Sunday Mirror.
The coalition instigated a strict media policy, ensuring a stream of ministerial announcements during the quiet summer months. Morale has also been boosted by a raft of positive economic data.
By contrast, Labour has turned inwards, with a number of serving and former MPs and aides criticising a perceived absence of major policies. Former Miliband adviser Lord Glasman yesterday said it was time for the Labour leader to show he is “grown-up politician”.
