Premier League: Welbeck at the double for United
ASTON VILLA 0 vs MANCHESTER UNITED 3
MANCHESTER United boss David Moyes fumed at the treatment meted out to youngster Adnan Januzaj after his side ended their Premier League losing run.
Two goals from striker Danny Welbeck and one for midfielder Tom Cleverley defeated Aston Villa and lifted United to eighth, 10 points off the top, but Moyes was angry at the officials’ handling of Januzaj.
“It is terrible what they are allowing to go on at the moment,” he said. “They [opponents] are queuing up to see who can kick him next. It’s a recurring theme and it’s the referees’ job to sort it out. You would hope they’d recognise that.”
Januzaj had a hand in United’s opener in the 15th minute, heading Rafael’s right-wing cross against the post for Welbeck to instantly finish the rebound. It was his first league goal since August, but the England international took just three minutes to net again, sliding in to beat Januzaj to Antonio Valencia’s low cross.
Cleverley capped the win just after half-time with his first league strike for exactly a year, running onto Wayne Rooney’s precise through-ball to beat Brad Guzan at his near post.
