Premier League: Koeman set to bolster squad as Swansea thwart Southampton
SOUTHAMPTON 0 SWANSEA 1
SOUTHAMPTON manager Ronald Koeman confirmed his intention to dip into the transfer market and bolster his squad ahead of tonight’s deadline after slipping to defeat against Swansea at St Mary’s Stadium.
Former Liverpool and Charlton midfielder Jonjo Shelvey thundered home a 25-yard strike as Swansea inflicted the hosts’ first Premier League defeat in seven matches and in turn recorded their first win at Southampton in 62 years, while Saints full-back Ryan Bertrand saw red late on.
Southampton remain in the top four despite defeat but are feeling the heat from perennial Champions League qualifiers Arsenal after the Gunners drew level on points with the south coast side yesterday.
Koeman last week revealed he is interested in signing Feyenoord’s defensive midfielder Tonny Vilhena as well as Benfica’s attack-minded midfielder Filip Djuricic, who is currently on loan at German side Mainz.
“We will have at least one player, I think we need that,” said Koeman. “I don’t answer questions about names. But you will know it tomorrow.”
