Premier League: Carroll injury recurrence blights West Ham’s stoic defensive show

WEST Ham boss Sam Allardyce bemoaned his growing injury woe after Andy Carroll limped though the final stages of his side’s stalemate with high-flying Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium last night.
The eighth-placed Hammers defended resolutely and salvaged a well-earned point following the dismissal of Spanish keeper Adrian on the hour mark, recording their first clean sheet in 18 away games.
Allardyce’s main concern remained with Carroll, who returned to the matchday squad after limping off at Anfield in West Ham’s last away match, subsequently missing Sunday’s draw with Manchester United.
“It’s the same injury as before with Carroll,” said Allardyce. “It was a knock and it’s caused him the same injury again, which is obviously a concern for us. That’s a big blow, and we have a thin squad at the moment.”
