Post-election high: City broker pushes ahead
THE BOSS of City broker Finncap is predicting an upswing in M&A activity and stock market listings later this year after the uncertainty of the UK’s domestic political future was laid to rest for another five years. Sam Smith, who founded the brokerage in 2007, said corporate activity would start to flourish again after a fallow period leading up the general election. “We think deal flow will really start picking up and M&A will start moving again,” she said. “We felt everything was on hold from January and it got in a bit of a log jam. Now with the certainty of the election results, all those companies thinking about doing something can crack on.”
