Portugal axes public holidays
PORTUGAL has cancelled four of its 14 public holidays in an attempt to improve its GDP figures amid its worst recession since the 1970s.
The Eurozone nation has negotiated with the Vatican to suspend the Catholic holidays of All Saints Day and Corpus Christi for the next five years, according to local media, while two other public holidays will be put on ice for the same period.
Portugal is fighting to get a grip on its public finances following a €78bn (£62.6bn) bailout just over a year ago.
