Pork sales sizzling as Cranswick posts record £1bn annual revenue
SAUSAGE-MAKER Cranswick’s sales have topped the £1bn mark for the first time.
The company said that demand for British pig meat has increased in overseas markets, leading to revenue of £1.003bn for the year ended 31 March. Meanwhile, pre-tax profit rose 10.6 per cent to £57.8m.
Cranswick’s efforts to diversify included buying Benson Park in October, which the company described as “a leading producer of premium British cooked poultry products serving the fast growing food-to-go sector”.
Fresh pork sales were down 10 per cent, which was partly due to losing business from one customer at the start of the year, but sausage sales rose by six per cent and bacon sales increased four per cent. Elsewhere, exports outside Europe grew by 23 per cent, with Cranswick now selling to the east Asia, Africa and Australia.
Cranswick chairman Martin Davey said: “Cranswick benefits from some of the most efficient and well-invested production facilities in the UK food producer sector. This, in conjunction with our growing international export channels and strategy of diversifying our product portfolio, leaves the board confident that Cranswick is well positioned to continue its successful long-term development.”
