Police probe fresh allegations of Chelsea fan racism on train
CHELSEA were last night facing fresh controversy after police launched an investigation into allegations of racist and abusive behaviour by the club’s fans on a train from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.
British Transport Police were called to meet the train at Stoke-on-Trent shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday and asked four men to leave, while a further four left of their own volition.
Passengers claimed the abusive individuals were Chelsea supporters, with the incident coming a matter of hours after the Blues beat Tottenham 2-0 at Wembley to lift the Capital One Cup.
“It’s not clear if any Chelsea supporters were involved but if they were we will, of course, be assisting the British Transport Police with their inquiries,” said a Chelsea representative.
This incident follows an apparent racist scene on the Paris Metro last month before Chelsea’s Champions League last-16 first-leg tie with Paris Saint-Germain.
Footage captured a group of the club’s fans allegedly prevent a black man from boarding the train whilst chanting “We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it.”
The Stamford Bridge club suspended five supporters in connection to this incident following its own investigation.
