Police investigation launch as dead body found on tracks by East Croydon train station
Police have launched an investigation after a dead body was found on the tracks near to East Croydon train station this morning.
The British Transport Police were called at 9:11am on Christmas Eve, and are still on the scene, a spokesman told City AM.
The investigation is still at the "early stages" he added, and it was too early to tell what the cause of death could be.
The spokesman added: “BTP is currently in attendance with colleagues from London Ambulance Service, and a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are now working to identify the person and establish how they came to be on the tracks and receive their injuries.
“The incident is currently being treated as unexplained.”
The incident caused delays to Southern Trains services operating through the station, as lines were blocked, which were continuing into mid-morning. Network Rail is advising commuters to seek alternative routes.
