Poles apart: FX trader will join rugby stars’ trek to North Pole
WHAT do you get when you mix an Arctic explorer with some ex-England rugby internationals and an FX chief executive? The Capitalist found out last night having hotfooted it to the Shepherd’s Bush HQ of LMAX Exchange – you get a well financed rugby match at the North Pole.
The financial exchange company has teamed up with rugby-backed children’s charity Wooden Spoon and explorer Jock Wishart to organise the Arctic Rugby Challenge. It launched last night, with the aim of recruiting more troops over the next year and setting off to trek to the North Pole in a bid to play the most northern game of rugby ever, in April 2015. “We want to get an FX company into the back pages of the papers,” LMAX chief exec David Mercer told The Capitalist. “It’s a fantastic challenge and a great charity, although I’ll probably be sidelined cutting up oranges during the match.”
The Capitalist heard rugby star Pat Sanderson had his own challenge on the evening, getting lost on the way to the venue – let’s hope he bucks up his navigation skills before he hits the Arctic next year.
