Pieces of a failed Russian spaceship could fall down to earth on Friday
Fragments of a failed Russian spacecraft are expected to fall to Earth later this week, according to space agency Roscosmos.
The Progress resupply ship was sent up into space at the end of last month to deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS), but was unable to reach the correct orbit and went into an uncontrollable spin.
Despite their efforts, Russian flight controllers have been unable to bring it under control, and on Friday it is going to fall out of orbit entirely and head down to Earth.
Fortunately, most of the vehicle will harmlessly burn up in the atmosphere before they are able to reach us, but it is considered likely that some fragments will escape destruction.
Deliveries to the ISS are a joint responsibility between the US and Russia, with the next load of supplies due to be launched by SpaceX in June.
