Pictures: Artists recreate the Game of Thrones Wall in the City
Wildlings beware, the City’s Bishop’s Square has become the unlikely site for a 3D painted version of the Game of Thrones Wall.
The large-scale pavement painting, which gives passers by the impression they are standing on the top of the fictional parapet, has been commissioned (predictably) by HBO to celebrate the release of season three of the hit show on DVD.
Fans of the show have only got today to get down there and capture their, “climbing the wall like John Snow” photos as, “The Wall” will be whipped away tomorrow.
The piece has been created by artists 3D Joe & Max – and it’s not the first time they’ve created a fake fissure in the City. In 2011 the duo created the Guinness World Record’s largest 3D painting in Canary Wharf on behalf of Reebok.
By all accounts, they’re glad to be back: “We were delighted to be approached by HBO to commission this artwork – we knew we had to do something really special to match the sheer scale of this phenomenal TV show that has swept the globe,” said artist Joe Hill, founder of 3D Joe and Max.
“That’s why The Wall in 3D works from more than one angle – making it a first in the 3D art world.”
Well, it should tide GOT fans over until the release of the next series at least. If only we could get Sean Bean back here for a photo or two on the wall (he was here just a few weeks ago doing a book reading).
