BURGLARS TO CASH IN ON WEDDING
While the UK celebrates the royal wedding, AXA, the home insurers, predict a potentially huge surge in burglaries and accidental damage insurance claims. AXA’s research predicts that over four in ten of us will be away from our homes for the royal wedding while a further 21 per cent will throw open our doors for a party with friends and family, providing burglars with perfect conditions for a lucrative weekend.
WEDDINGS NOW PAID FOR BY COUPLES
Today’s engaged couples are taking greater financial control over their wedding. With nearly two thirds (61 per cent) footing the majority of the costs themselves, they are saving more and spending less ahead of their big day, according to research from Tesco Bank. The research highlights a shift in the way in which weddings are paid for – just one in five (20 per cent) of those due to marry will get financial support from the bride’s family.
THIRD OF BRITS ON HOLIDAY NEXT WEEK
Over a third (34 per cent) of British workers have either taken holiday or are planning to take holiday between the bank holiday weekends for Easter, the royal wedding and May Day, according to research conducted by Lloyds TSB. With 11 days holiday available for just three days annual leave for a full time worker, it is no wonder so many are keen to make the most of this opportunity to relax.
IPHONES NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE
While 99 per cent of mobile phone insurance policies cover theft of normal handsets and smartphones, only 74 per cent of mobile phone insurance policies cover the theft of iPhones, according to financial research firm Defaqto. Brian Brown, Defaqto’s head of research, warned: “It is essential that people match the features and benefits they require from a mobile phone insurance product with those provided by the policy they choose.”
