Peckham Coal Line project oversubscribed by £10,000
The Peckham Coal Line project – an initiative to create an elevated urban park in south London – has beaten its fundraising target by more than £10,000.
The crowdfunding round had been seeking nearly £65,000 to pay for a feasibility study and consultation with local people over plans to convert the abandoned Rickett coal sidings running between Queen's Road Peckham and Peckham Rye train stations into a 900-metre-long park.
The scheme had received funding from Southwark Council and the Mayor of London's office, both of whom gave £10,000 towards the project.
The urban park's crowdfunding page on Spacehive says the final tally stood at £75,682 raised from 925 backers.
