Paula Radcliffe searching for London’s speediest borough
THINK you’re the speediest in Southwark? The quickest in Croydon? UK athlete and national treasure Paula Radcliffe is calling on residents from all 33 boroughs to sign up to the Morrison’s Great Newham London Run.
Radcliffe wants Londoners to sign up to the 10km slog taking place in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in two weeks, battling it out to be London’s Fastest Borough.
Up to 15,000 runners are expected to turn out in Newham to compete for the title.
Each runner will declare their home borough upon registering. Total times for each borough will be collected, with the shortest named London’s fastest residence.
Radcliffe, who is the ambassador for Morrison’s Great Run series, said: “I’m intrigued to see how fast the residents of each London borough are.” We might be biased, but our money’s on the City.
▀ Cycling is big business in London. That’s why companies from publishers Faber & Faber to the National Housing Federation are buying in to a shared cycle vault in Holborn, complete with lockers and showers for their loyal workers. The vault, launched this week by business district firm Inmidtown and TfL, will provide bike parking at just £20 per month. Despite Inmidtown chief executive Tass Mavrogordato not being a fan of bikes, she reckons the vault will help Londoners have a “healthy commute”.
▀ Bored of the same old daytime views? Why not join us for a 15-mile midnight stroll around London’s most historic sites in a charity culture crawl this September. The crawl, which will take walkers through six arty London venues from Paternoster Square to Covent Garden, is in aid of cancer support charity Maggie’s. Sandy Naime, chair of Maggie’s Art Group, briefed Maggie’s supporters in Piccadilly on what would be in store for the culture crawl. He said: “My theme for this year is people and places. I like the idea of telling stories that connect people to places that may not get noticed.” So if you’d like to join us on our expedition, register on the Maggie’s website, and we’ll see you there!
