Output up for UK car manufacturers
British car manufacturers built just under 100,000 cars last month – a 40.6 per cent jump from the same month last year.
UK manufacturers rolled out 99,910 cars in August, exporting 73,219 of them and keeping 26,691 in the country for domestic consumption, according to new figures out today from SMMT.
The output pushed year-to-date production volumes past one million, a gain of 1.6 per cent over August of last year.
But the year-to-date gains were even stronger for cars built for sale in the UK, with the number of “home” cars built year-to-date in August registering an 11.1 per cent increase over the same time last year.
Commenting on the results, SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes, said that with an overall increase of 1.6 per cent so far in 2015, the figures represented the “strongest year-to-date performance since 2008”.
