Oscar Pistorius out on probation in August
Oscar Pistorius will be out of prison on probation on 21 August.
According to reports, South Africa’s Correctional Services Department has put in a recommendation that the athlete, jailed for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, be released under a South African law allowing release under "correctional supervision" after serving a sixth of his sentence.
Pistorius is serving a five-year sentence for culpable homicide, but the case is yet to close – the prosecution team is still appealing the verdict, arguing it was murder.
Steenkamp was shot and killed in the bathroom of the athlete’s home on Valentine’s day 2013.
Pistorius came to world-wide attention for his athletic prowess. He won Paralympic medals in 100m, 200m and 400m events across three Paralympic games.
