One of the ministers behind the apprenticeship levy is to leave the government
Nick Boles has announced that he is leaving the government two years after he was appointed as skills minister.
Incoming prime minister Theresa May is expected to name her frontbench team in the coming days.
But in a statement issued on his Facebook page, Boles said that while he had enjoyed his time under David Cameron, he would support May from the backbenches.
“I would also like to congratulate Theresa May on becoming Prime Minister. I am very proud to be a member of the party that has now elected two women to hold this office,” Boles said.

“I look forward to giving her my full support as she strives to make Britain a place that works for everyone, not just a privileged few. It is a noble ambition and I wish her well.”
Boles was one of the key ministers responsible for the implementation of the controversial apprenticeship levy, which was designed to increase spending on training by £1bn a year.
However, the charge proved controversial, and last month Boles warned that it could be killed off by a Brexit vote.
