OLYMPIC MEDIA BUZZ LONDON 2012 PARTNERS
IN ASSOCIATION with Repskan.com, City A.M. is measuring the relative Olympic media buzz around the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games partners, week by week. The leaderboard, right, reflects their ranking over the past week, in this case from Wednesday 10 May to Wednesday 17 May.
ArcelorMittal’s £19.6m Orbit sculpture, opened on 11 May, has become a major talking point and the firm has shot into second place in our ranking. The 114.5 metre tower in the Olympic Park, designed by Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond, includes 2,000 tonnes of the firm’s steel. Although it was gifted to the Games’ legacy development corporation, and no logos are allowed in the Park during the Games, the tower will bear the firm’s name in perpetuity, and has earned it the position of a Tier Two sponsor. ArcelorMittal admits the tower may not be to all tastes, but argues that it is a symbol of the regeneration of East London.
