Nomura opens doors for disengaged kids
DISADVANTAGED kids celebrated a victory this weekend as investment bank Nomura hosted a graduation ceremony in their own offices for those enrolled in a rigorous programme from education charity ThinkForward. The course has a big City backing, including from Barclays, EY, ICG, Credit Suisse, JP Morgan and UBS. Go team!
■ WANT to see something brilliant? City A.M. managing director Lawson Muncaster is going to abseil down the Lloyd’s of London building on Lime Street. He’s doing it alongside other long-suffering volunteers to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal as part of the run up to City Giving day in September. We’re scared he’ll chicken out if he doesn’t reach his fundraising target of £950, so please donate generously before the treacherous abseil begins on 4 September at www.doitforcharity.com/Lawson. Go on, you’ll really want to see this.
■ DO YOU feel like you don’t fit the City stereotype? Are you more Pearly King than diamonds and pearls? Well good news, as today Leadenhall Market will play host to Cockney Opera, celebrating the music hall tradition and bringing a bit of cultcha’ to the Square Mile. The event will take place just in time for lunch in the Market, with cockney tunes in an operatic style. So get orf your ‘Arris and have a butcher’s!
