Nomura appoints its first ever female chief financial officer
JAPANESE bank Nomura has appointed its first ever female chief financial officer (CFO) as part of a reshuffle.
Junko Nakagawa was previously co-deputy CFO at the lender and, will step up to join the executive management board. The changes come as Nomura diversifies its operations to better compete globally.
Since the purchase of the non-US business of Lehman Brothers in the wake of the financial crisis, the Tokyo-based bank has been adopting the management methods of foreign firms. Nomura’s current president and chief operating officer of its wholesale business Jesse Bhattal will also be promoted, becoming deputy president of the group.
He was promoted as recently as last year, when he was plucked from his post as Asia-Pacific chief executive of Lehman Brothers to his current role.
