Not clinical enough, says Wasps boss Dai Young despite Premiership victory over Gloucester
Wasps director of rugby Dai Young lamented his side’s attacking prowess despite the Midlands club recording their second victory of the season with a 23-3 success against Gloucester at the Ricoh Arena yesterday.
Wing Christian Wade touched down while Wasps were also awarded a penalty try, as fly-half Ruaridh Jackson kicked two conversions and centre Elliot Daly three long-distance penalties.
Scotland skipper Greig Laidlaw kicked Gloucester’s sole points in the contest, while visiting wing David Halaifonua was shown red for a high tackle and Wasps prop Lorenzo Cittadini for punching Billy Twelvetrees off the ball.
“We made seven line-breaks but didn’t take enough of them,” said Young. “We are creating opportunities but our conversion rate isn’t good enough.
“We would have taken this result before the game. We had the game won after 60 minutes but we didn’t kick on. From the side we looked to have switched off in the last 20 minutes as we lacked accuracy and our discipline faded.”
Victory moved Wasps eighth in the Premiership table, a point behind newly-promoted Worcester in sixth and three behind Richard Cockerill’s Leicester, who occupy the final play-off spot in fourth.
