Nissan dismisses chairman Carlos Ghosn following arrest in Japan
Nissan’s board of directors has voted to oust its chairman Carlos Ghosn following his arrest for suspected financial crimes.
Ghosn was removed as chairman and representative director after a unanimous decision in a board meeting at Nissan's headquarters in Yokohama, the company said today.
Ghosn was arrested in Japan on Monday following allegations of financial misconduct, including the under-reporting of his salary.
Representative director Greg Kelly, who was also implicated in the accusations, has also been removed.
On Tuesday night Nissan’s partner firm Renault decided not to dismiss Ghosn, saying it would promote Thierry Bollore to lead a temporary management structure while the chairman faces questioning by Japanese authorities.
Nissan said it will be taking advice from an independent third party on how to improve its governance of director compensation.
The car manufacturer said it will establish an advisory committee to propose nominations for Ghosn's successor.
