Nintendo Switch ranked the most successful game of all time with 22m consoles sold per year
New research has revealed the most successful game consoles of all time, with the Nintendo Switch topping the list.
Released in 2017, the Switch has sold over 90m units in just four years of production, giving it the top spot with an average of 22m consoles sold per year.
Many of these sales came during 2020, with sales on games for the console increasing 122 per cent during the COVID-19 lockdowns in the UK.
Analysis conducted by NextDayDelivery.co.uk studied sales data for game consoles, and the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 4 took second and third place, with 17.21m and 14.56m consoles sold per year respectively.
Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from NextDayDelivery stated: “With the console war between PlayStation and Xbox raging on, it’s interesting to see that Nintendo still takes the two top spots in the list of the most successful consoles. With Black Friday just around the corner, lots of people will be excited about finally receiving their delivery of one of the consoles.”
The news comes after the Japanese company reported a 19 per cent decline in net profit for the first half of this fiscal year due to a global chip shortage and a slowing demand for games.
