Nintendo hopes newly unveiled console will switch its fortunes
Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has unveiled what some analysts are calling its last hope for a home console system, called Switch.
The firm – which has had mixed success since its big win with its Wii console 10 years ago – will release its next games machine in March next year. The device, shown off yesterday in a three minute YouTube video, will be a handheld, portable device that doubles up as a home console system.
Scant details of the machine were revealed though it would appear the hybrid will be positioned as both a mobile and home gaming device.
“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer at Nintendo of America.
“It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”
