New York Report: Caution halts Dow’s rise
US STOCKS yesterday ended a choppy trading session lower, as investors turned cautious after the EU and President Barack Obama announced a new round of sanctions against Russia for its role in Ukraine’s deadly civil war.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 70.16 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 16,912.43, the S&P 500 lost 8.93 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 1,969.98. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.21 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 4,442.70.
Corning dropped 9.3 per cent to $20 after reporting earnings that came in below estimates as demand fell for its Gorilla Glass, used in iPhones and Galaxy devices.
Shares in Herbalife tanked almost 14 per cent to $58.35, extending losses from late on Monday when the nutritional supplements marketer posted quarterly results that missed analysts’ targets.
