Either Boris Johnson or foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt will become the new Tory party leader depending on the outcome of a postal vote among 160,000 party members.
The Tory leadership candidates are divided over Brexit, with Johnson prepared to leave the EU without a deal on 31 October.
Hunt, meanwhile, has not ruled out extending the Halloween deadline in favour of pursuing a deal.
Speaking today, Johnson said it was “fundamental to trust in politics” that the UK deliver Brexit.
He has also said the UK should withhold the £39bn so-called divorce bill until an agreement is reached.
Do or die,” Johnson said of Brexit, “come what may.”
Hunt meanwhile has challenged Johnson to publicly debate him on their policies.
The foreign secretary has called Johnson a “coward” for not committing to head to head televised discussions.
