New political runways of power
NEVER mind who wins this year’s general election, The Capitalist knows one thing for certain – the corridors of power are going to have some well-dressed women. First Green Party leader Natalie Bennett was in the front row at London Fashion week, supporting eco-warrior Vivienne Westwood. Then yesterday both David Cameron’s wife Samantha and Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman were on hand to applaud British fashion at the Burberry show.
Judging by the folksy fashions on the catwalk, don’t be surprised if you see Harman stepping out of the pink campaign bus soon in her finest patchwork suede, and Sam Cam enjoying the fringe benefits of, er, copious fringing.
■ Glassdoor’s list of the top 25 jobs began so promisingly. “We can’t all be water slide testers,” wrote the firm, which allows people to anonymously rate the companies they work for. The Capitalist was hooked. What amazing line of toil could beat a day at the water park? The answers, it turns out, are: marketing manager, finance manager, mechanical engineer, solutions architect and software engineer. With the list based on money, job availability and career opportunities, those childhood dreams of being a vet or astronaut are out the window.
