New look for Cannon Street station set to stun the City
NETWORK?Rail (NR) has revealed the new look of its revamped Cannon Street station in the heart of the City.
The rail infrastructure operator and property developer Hines have released new artists’ impressions of their Cannon Place office development, which is due to open in 2011.
The two groups are building an eight-storey, 400,000 sq ft office building above a new railway concourse and tube station entrance.
The new station will be brighter, easier to use and more spacious and open than its predecessor, while the building above will be “architecturally striking”, NR said.
Cannon Street is among the top ten busiest stations in the country, serving 95,000 City workers each day.
Government-backed NR has used private sector cash to help fund the station revamp as part of the replacement of the old 12-storey office tower.
NR’s group finance director Patrick Butcher said: “Our partnership with Hines illustrates how the value of our estate has remained resilient despite the economic difficulties.”
Hines’ project director Mark Swetman said: “This development is a great opportunity to add value to the City.”
