New garden city near Heathrow Airport: First look at the Bedfont Lakes Neighbourhoods that could bring 20,000 jobs and 2,000 homes to Hounslow
Hounslow council has just published artist’s impressions of the Bedfont Lakes Neighbourhood development, revealing for the first time what the planned garden city near Heathrow is set to look like.
The borough is hoping that the development, part of its Western Borough plan, will bring as many as 20,000 jobs and 2,000 homes to the area just south of the airport.
Hounslow Council Leader Steve Curran described the future garden city as a place “people want to live in and businesses want to invest” when launching the plan.
The Western Borough plan was launched following the outcome of the Davies Commission’s investigation into Heathrow’s future, backing a third runway for the airport.
Initially, it proposed building 9,000 new homes in the area, but has since been scaled back to less than a fourth of the original plan.
