New car sales set to overtake pre-recession levels next year
NEW CAR sales are showing no signs of hitting the brakes after increasing for the 33rd consecutive month in November.
November new car sales reached 172,327, up by eight per cent on November 2013, according to figures released yesterday by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
In the year-to-date new car sales have raced ahead of last year’s figure by 9.4 per cent with 2,310,237 sales completed so far.
“We remain confident that the new car market will achieve over 2.45m in 2014 and top 2.5m in 2015 as strengthening consumer sentiment should bolster demand.” John Leech, head of automotive at consultancy KPMG UK.
If Leech’s forecasts are correct, car sales in 2014 will finally have caught up with pre-recession levels and would have surpassed them by 2015.
The best selling car during the year-to-day is the Ford Fiesta with 123,747 sales followed by the Ford Focus at 78,944 units.
