Lufthansa strike: Nearly 1,000 flights to be cancelled tomorrow as German airline cabin crew row continues
More than 110,000 passengers will be affected after German airline giant Lufthansa said today it would cancel 929 flights due to a cabin crew strike tomorrow.
The strike is part of a week of action organised by cabin crew union UFO to push demands in a long-running row over early retirement benefits and pensions.
The strike will run in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf strike running from 3.30am to 10pm and until 11pm in Munich.
UFO called a smaller strike on Friday, which only affected 37,500 passengers and only took place in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf and stepped it up a notch yesterday with a strike that disrupted 60,000 journeys.
In a statement, Lufthansa said:
Group Airlines Germanwings, Eurowings, Lufthansa CityLine, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Brussels Airlines are not on strike. Flights to and from Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf that are carried by Group Airlines are also not affected by the strike.
Lufthansa asks all customers, as a precaution, to inform themselves on LH.com of the status of their flights prior to travelling to the airport.
Despite announcing last month that it expected record profits in 2015, the Lufthansa has previously said it must make cost reductions now if it is to compete in the long term.
