National Union of Teachers votes for another day of school strikes
THE National Union of Teachers has voted for a strike that could close schools in England and Wales in the week beginning 23 June.
The union’s conference in Brighton also agreed to consult teachers on further action in the autumn term.
The strikes are part of a bitter campaign over teachers’ pay, pensions and workload.
The other large teachers’ union, the NASUWT, has also threatened to take industrial action in the run-up to next year’s general election.
The threatened strike would take place in the same week as GCSE and A-level exams are scheduled, but NUT general secretary Christine Blower said teachers would be able to cross strike lines to make sure the tests went ahead.
The strike would be the second this year after another last month.
