Murray roars to doubles success while Robson starts with a win
BRITAIN’S Jamie Murray secured his fourth doubles title of the year yesterday with victory at the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
The 27-year-old, together with playing partner John Peers of Australia, defeated Tomasz Bednarek and Johan Brunstrom 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
Victory for Murray, brother of reigning Wimbledon singles champion Andy, and Peers followed triumphs at the Clay Court Championship in Houston and the Swiss Open at Gstaad on the main ATP tour, as well as June’s win in the challenger series event, the Aegon Trophy, in Nottingham.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Laura Robson overcame world No33 Klara Zakopalova, ranked five places above the British No1, in three sets to reach the second round of the China Open in Beijing.
The 19-year-old, won 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 and will play Angelique Kerber of Germany in the next round.
Robson’s compatriot Heather Watson was defeated on Saturday, but there were opening round victories for world No1 Serena Williams and last year’s Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska.
