Murdoch promotes his son
JAMES Murdoch has continued his rise through his father’s media empire after being promoted to deputy chief operating officer of News Corp in addition to his role as chief executive of the media group’s international operations.
He will remain in direct control of News International, the UK-based business which operates newspapers including the Times and the Sun. The move, still reporting to chief operating officer Chase Carey, makes him officially the third most important person in the company, and he will work closely with his father.
He will relocate to New York for the role, making former Sun editor Rebekah Brooks the most senior UK-based member of the Murdoch empire. The move follows the appointment of Elisabeth Murdoch to the News Corp board following the acquisition of her Shine production company.
