Mountain Warehouse scales new heights after bumper Christmas
MOUNTAIN Warehouse was celebrating yesterday after the bleak Christmas weather prompted Britons to splash out on outdoor clothing.
Like-for-like sales were up 10.7 per cent at the outdoor retailer over the six weeks to 5 January, the retailer said yesterday, benefiting from the wet and windy weather around Christmas.
Its performance was also boosted by a surge in online sales, which increased by 127 per cent on a year earlier.
Total sales across its 169 stores were up 15.6 per cent.
The retailer’s founder and chief executive Mark Neale, who led an £85m management buyout of the business in October, paid tribute to an “excellent 2013” for the retailer.
“Our success, in a difficult retail environment, is testament to the hard work of our staff and the quality and value of the products we offer consumers,” he said.
The company opened 20 new stores in 2013 and plans further expansion this year, starting with a new outlet in Market Harborough next month.
