Mothercare boss leaves after downturn in sales
NEW MOTHERCARE chairman Alan Parker has swung the axe at the retailer, dispensing of the services of chief executive Ben Gordon.
Gordon is leaving the company after a string of disappointing results, the company announced yesterday. He will be stepping down when the retailer releases its interim results on 17 November.
The search for a new chief executive for the company, which has 1,322 stores worldwide, is underway. Parker has been chairman since August.
Shares in the baby and mother products retailer plunged last week when it reported a 9.6 per cent fall in UK like-for-like quarterly sales but yesterday they rose 9.2 per cent on the news of Gordon’s departure.
Gordon is stepping down after nearly nine, mainly successful, years at the firm.
