Most UK tech professionals would consider moving abroad: US, Australia and Canada top of the list
Silicon Roundabout has proved a lure for many UK tech professionals, but maybe the pull of good coffee and free wifi is wearing off.
Nearly three quarters in the industry say they would consider moving abroad for work if the right job came up, according to a poll out today.
The figures, based on a survey of more 550 UK tech professionals, reveal that 72 per cent would look to move abroad while 69 per cent would consider relocating within the UK.
The US, Australia and Canada topped the list of most attractive places to move to, followed by France, Germany, New Zealand and Spain, according to the survey published by recruiter Dice.
“Tech professionals fully recognise the highly transferable nature of their skills,” Dice’s marketing director in the UK and continental Europe Jamie Bowler said. “As a result, tech professionals are often more open than other professionals to the concept of moving – whether to improve their career or their lifestyle.”
The biggest factor sending tech workers overseas are lifestyle-related or a better work and life balance, rather than financial incentives, the recruiter said.
