Morrisons outstrips its rivals
Morrisons is growing at the fastest rate of the big four supermarkets with Tesco continuing to lag behind the pack, according to new industry data. Britain’s fourth-biggest grocer clocked up growth of 7.9 per cent in the 12 weeks to 17 May, lifting its market share to 11.6 per cent. Sainsbury’s, with 7.8 per cent growth, and Asda, with 7.2 per cent growth, followed closely behind, increasing their market share to 16.3 per cent and 17.1 per cent respectively, according to the TNS WorldPanel data.
Tesco showed growth of 4.7 per cent but was behind a market growing at 5.8 per cent. As a result its share slipped back to 30.8 per cent compared with 31.1 per cent a year ago.
