Morrisons on hiring spree for shop floor while axing head office staff
MORRISONS is axing hundreds of roles in its head office while simultaneously going on a hiring spree for its shop floor as part of radical shake-up under new chief executive David Potts.
The ailing supermarket chain, which reported a £792m pre-tax loss last month, said 720 jobs will be cut in Bradford to create a simpler and more “cost-conscious head office”.
Staff who are being made redundant will be offered a role in a store, while others will be redeployed in other parts of the business, Morrisons said. It is also offering voluntary redundancy.
At the same time, it is also hiring 5,000 shop floor staff to “improve service, increase availability, and open more checkouts”.
