More than 70 firefighters needed to tackle “massive” Enfield fire, prompting warnings for motorists on M25
The London Fire Brigade tackled a "massive" blaze on an industrial yard in Enfield, which affected motorists on the M25 this morning.
In total, 10 fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers were needed to bring the fire, on Whitewabbs Lane, under control. The Brigade was called just after 2am this morning, and the fire was under control by 6am.
A 150m by 100m stack of wooden pallets and a warehouse were destroyed by the blaze, while eight cars, seven forklift trucks, six lorries and three caravans were also badly damaged.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
Around 35 propane gas cylinders were removed from the site to prevent the fire escalating further, but heavy smoke was blowing over onto the M25 junction 24 and 25, and motorists were asked to take extra care.

Deputy assistant commissioner Graham Ellis, who was at the scene, said: “This is a difficult fire to fight but crews worked exceptionally hard to bring it under control.
"Firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the morning damping down pockets of fire."
