More than 100 business bosses back vote for Tory government
THE BOSSES of BP and the Prudential have today joined more than 100 of their fellow senior executives in declaring support for a Tory-led government in a letter published in the Daily Telegraph.
The business leaders, who signed in a personal capacity, said that the present government has supported investment and job creation.
“We believe a change in course will threaten jobs and deter investment. This would send a negative message about Britain and put the recovery at risk,” the letter said.
As well as Bob Dudley, chief executive of BP – who has come under fire for his pay package – and Tidjane Thiam from Prudential, the 103-strong list includes Arcadia retail group head Sir Philip Green, and Nick Robertson, the chief executive of Asos.
It also claims to have five signatories who have previously supported Labour: the entrepreneur Duncan Bannantyne, the hotelier Surinder Arora, chairman of Dixons Carphone and Talk Talk Sir Charles Dunstone, theatrical producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh and businessman Moni Varma.
The Conservatives said the letter is the most significant intervention by business leaders in a general election.
