Moores keeps faith with Morgan despite four ducks in five games
ENGLAND head coach Peter Moores has backed under-fire captain Eoin Morgan but admits the team must get better in key areas if they are to trouble the latter stages of the Cricket World Cup.
Morgan suffered a fourth duck in five games as England lost their tournament opener against co-hosts Australia by 111 runs on Saturday. They face New Zealand next on Friday.
“He hasn’t got in,” said Moores. “He’s got to remember he got a hundred a month ago. Nobody was more frustrated than Eoin yesterday. He had a clear plan of what he was trying to do and that didn’t come off for him. He’s got to back himself, he’s played one-day cricket now for a decent amount of time.”
England’s death bowling came under fire again after Australia plundered 75 off the final six overs to set a daunting target of 343.
Moores added: “If we play Australia again it will be in the knockout stages and by that time we’ve got to have addressed some key areas where we need to get better.”
