Monzo now supports Android Pay, but not Apple Pay just yet
Monzo has added support for Android Pay, the latest new feature to be added by the digital challenger bank as it rolls out full current accounts.
It's also the first digital wallet the fintech has added support for.
“Our goal at Monzo is to make everyone's financial lives easier. That can mean helping you at major milestones, like buying a house or starting a family. Or something as simple as making sure you can pay in the quickest, most convenient way possible," said founder and chief executive Tom Blomfield.
"We're building a bank that lives on your smartphone, and with Android Pay you can now use your phone to pay with Monzo too."
The startup boasts nearly half a million users and is aiming to get them all transferred from the existing pre-paid card to the current account by the end of the year. The Android Pay option, which connects the Monzo account to paying with a swipe of a phone, is only for current account holders.
Monzo last week announced changes to how it charges for cash withdrawals at ATMs outside the UK, with more favourable changes for current account holders incentivising them to make the switch.
Meanwhile, rival challenger bank Starling announced today that it's the first bank in the UK to support Fitbit Pay, in addition to Android and Apple Pay.
Monzo has not yet indicated when it might add simialr support for iPhone users with Apple Pay, despite demand.
