Monk: We’ll sell Bony but only for sky-high fee
SWANSEA manager Garry Monk has warned Wilfried Bony’s suitors that it would take an “astronomical” offer for them to consider selling the Ivory Coast striker.
Bony, 25, has six goals in his last eight games for the Welsh outfit, and 31 in 63 in total since his £12m transfer from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in summer 2013.
That form earned him a new contract last month that ties him to the Liberty Stadium until 2018, and Monk, whose side host QPR tonight, insists his price tag is now prohibitive.
“He is still a Swansea player. Money dictates things but it would take an astronomical fee for him to go anywhere,” said Monk, who praised Bony’s 18 top-flight goals in 2014 – more than any other player.
“It is a very good achievement for him and the club. It shows the work we are doing with him has paid off. He does his extras at the training ground.
“I think the team deserves credit as well. They create the chances. He would say that as well.”
Swansea lie eighth in the table, just one win off the Champions League places, and Monk played down the importance of his side losing 13 points from winning positions already this term.
“I am more concerned with the 19 points we have got,” he added. “We have done a lot of good work and we are improving. I prefer to concentrate on that. There are things to improve on.”
