Mishcon de Reya’s Kevin Gold lives up to his name at British Legal Awards in Old Billingsgate
AstraZeneca’s titan M&A battle with Pfizer was back on the agenda last night, as it earned legal adviser Freshfields the M&A gong at the British Legal Awards, hosted by Legal Week in Old Billingsgate.
“The standout deal in this category was a classic M&A takeover battle, ultimately preserving the independence of one of the UK’s flagship companies, AstraZeneca,” commented a Legal Week spokesperson.
Freshfields wasn’t the only winner of course – the lifetime achievement award went to chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority Charles Plant. London office of the year went to Latham & Watkins, and Mishcon de Reya’s gilded managing partner Kevin Gold took the law firm leader of the year trophy, making it a double celebration of sorts.
With Mishcon having advised Jamie Cooper-Hohn in her divorce proceedings with Sir Chris Hohn – her record breaking £337m settlement was definitely an Mishcon achievement, making for a lot of conversation in a room full of lawyers.
“She’ll definitely be able to maintain the lifestyle she was used to,” whispered one legal hound.
You can say that again.
