Michelin cheers star-studded City restaurants
THE LATEST Michelin awards, held yesterday, have made the City a much more star-studded place to have lunch.
Angler, a seafood specialist on the roof of the South Place Hotel in Moorgate, was among the nine restaurants in London to be given a prestigious star, just a year after opening.
Another newcomer – Lima, just off Oxford Street – has been given an award for its popular Peruvian cuisine, while Story in Bermondsey, which was launched in April by 26-year-old Tom Sellers, is also included in this year’s plaudits. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, the quirky eaterie at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Hyde Park, has been promoted from one to two stars – giving an “overjoyed” Blumenthal his sixth star to make him Michelin’s most lauded British chef.
“As a Brit, I am very proud that a restaurant inspired by and celebrating historic British cooking has been recognised today,” he said upon receiving the star.
But it was bad news for French restaurant L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in the West End, which lost one of its two stars.
